Great for around town

Review by Shadowrider
Overall Quality

I live in the suburbs and bought this bike for my kid to replace his 20 year old hand-me-down Motiv 21 speed mountain bike. The ergonomics of this bike are so different that my kid was not comfortable with riding it. Verdict: Kid wants to stick to his old Motiv. I got a nice bike in the bargain!

The bike arrived mostly assembled and by the time I got back home my spouse and my son had it almost put together, but were struggling with the cabling and brakes. A few minutes of my time took care of assembling the bike together. I would allocate a couple of hours of assembly time if you are not mechanically inclined. The assembly manual could be written with more illustrations to assist the totally uninitiated.

In the few weeks I have had this bicycle I have had over a 100 miles on town sidewalks. The Shimano shifter is buttery smooth as usual. The front fork suspension and the seat post springs suck up most of the pavement unevenness and make for a smooth ride. I do wish the suspension was a tad firmer to have a feel for the road when going over bumps. The pedals themselves are made of (ABS?) plastic. It is a little slippery even under routine conditions; they could use better ridging to enable the feet to stay firmly on the pedals such as when riding through sprinklers that spray on sidewalks etc. The bike firmly belongs on paved trails or sidewalks. Even the minor excursions into grass to escape sprinklers or broken concrete makes the ride a little adventurous! I am 6'1" and wear size 12 shoes. I am at the upper limit for the 19" frame and do have the same problem mentioned by one of the previous reviewers where my toes tend to hit the rear of the front tire. It was disconcerting at first, but a minor readjustment of my feet position on the pedals has taken care of it so far.

As for the build, the frame and components were solid and showed excellent fit and finish. The paint job was also excellent. Overall the quality is befitting a bicycle in the range of USD 200 and would strongly recommend picking this bike up on sale. I have no doubt that the bicycle will last a long time with routine maintenance. The bike came without any kickstand! This was indeed a surprise, so factor in an additional USD 20 for a kickstand.

Wheelbase too short for the frame size

Review by sonyp
Overall Quality

I ordered a bike with a 19-inch frame. I'm 5'10'', so I thought it would fit me. The frame of the bike I received is indeed 19 inches, and heightwise it's perfect. The handlebar can go up very high, and the ride can potentially be very comfortable. However, when I pedal, my feet hit the back of the front wheel, particularly when I turn. This suggests that the bike wheelbase is too short. When I measured the wheelbase, it was 1013 mm from center of rear to center of front wheel. It's supposed to be 1116 mm, according to the size chart on this website. So it's a child-sized wheelbased with an adult-sized frame! I can't use the bike.

Great value

Replaced an older wedgewood. Big difference vs my 10yr old bike. Haven't been able to ride much but the little I have has been great. Probably going to swap out for a plusher
