We build bikes that are a blast to ride, and you’re not having a blast if you’re weighed down by a boat anchor of a bike frame or crummy components. So while the Overdrive 1 is certainly affordable, it still features a fully hand-built and hydroformed aluminum frameset that belongs on a bike with a much steeper price tag.

That finely sculpted frame rolls on nimble and quick-handling 27.5” wheels. And when you’ve gleefully tested the limits of the Overdrive 1’s 80mm SR Suntour XCT suspension fork, you can easily bring this machine back into control with the bike’s mechanical disc brakes. Time to head back up the hill for another lap? Thanks to the Shimano drivetrain, you’ve got 24, accurate shifts that give you plenty of gearing to regain the summit … or take you anywhere you want to go.

This bike is, I learned from Diamondback's live chat, the 2018 version of the widely-praised "Overdrive 27.5." It's my 1st (and probably last - I'm no youngster) mountain bike, and I'm looking forward to taking it places my road bike can't go. I'm VERY impressed with its overall quality - even with its rock-hard seat and no kickstand - and the price was unbeatable. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that after following Diamondback's commendably simple 4-step "Ready Ride" process, it wasn't ready to ride, at all. Both disc brakes dragged badly, and both derailleurs were out of adjustment (the front one's limit settings were WAY off - in fact, it wasn't even mounted properly on the seat post! Ugh!). Fortunately, I'm reasonably handy, and with the aid of YouTube "how to" videos (Diamondback's are good, Park Tools' are better... sorry guys) I've managed to get MOST of the kinks worked out. I accept the fact it's hard to guarantee your new Diamondback will shift perfectly right out of the box, but I think a little more testing should've been done before mine was put into one.

This bike comes with lots of great features. At $415, it was a real deal I couldn't match anywhere else. The bike was delivered in great condition and very carefully packaged. It was easy to assemble, but takes about an hour. All the tools needed were included. Just had to top off the tires with air. My front derailleur was mounted a bit too high at the factory, so I took it into the bike shop and got front and rear adjustment for $16. Everything works great. These disc brakes require a breakin period, so take it easy on them for first 25 miles or so with gentle stops. Bike weights about 30 pounds as equipped. As others have noted, you will want to replace the factory seat right away and probably add some water bottle cages. Have had the bike on some local mountain bike trails and it performed very well. The bike is nice and quiet and shifts smoothly. Nice low gear for climbing. The front shocks work fine for me, but they don't seem to be very adjustable. Moving the adjustment knobs for "preload" has no noticeable effect on the shocks. Overall great bike! I am 6'2' tall with 34" inseam, but went with the Large 20" frame because I wanted the more compact frame. It fits great with a little extra seatpost extension to spare. I should note that there is no kickstand bracket built into the bike. I added a kickstand to the left side and placed it as far back as possible near the disc brake (BV Bike model) to avoid hitting it with my foot.
