You’re lost. And that’s a good thing because the Diamondback Haanjo 5C EXP is a gravel bike designed to help you get off the beaten track. That’s why we designed it around a light, tough carbon fiber frame and fork with thru axles front and rear.

The path up the mountain is rarely flat and smooth. Accordingly, we outfitted this beast with plenty of gears as well as stout 27.5 inch HED Tomcat wheels shod with forgiving 47mm tires. Finally, since “the middle of nowhere” rarely brims over with replacement parts, we went with bar-end shifters for ease of on-trail maintenance and reliability.

Looking for your next great adventure? When the road turns bad, this bike gets really good.

The Mountainbiker's Road bike

Review by paolo
Overall Quality

I have the 2017 Haanjo EXP (last year's model in OD green) with almost the exact same specs as the 2018, the most notable difference being the stock 27.5" tires. My 2017 came with knobby Schwalbe Smart Sam 27.5 x 2.1" mountain bike tires. ---> It's a fun option one could add to their 2018, by the way.

In a recent friendly race in the prealps of Italy, this setup was perfect for the 45km of gravel, tarmac, and rocky fire roads. With tire pressures set well, you have significant suspension/comfort and confidence with that 27.5x2.1" setup.

I also run a set of Schwalbe 700x35s on another set of wheels. This allows for quick road rides that can include mild gravel if I feel like it. ---> This is also a highly recommended setup.

I did months of research before purchasing. Peruse the specs sheets, the built-in features and geometry charts of the best adventure-gravel bikes out there and compare them to the Haanjo Carbon. Diamondback doesn't leave anything on the table...its shocking. You could upgrade this bike with more expensive components as most of us do eventually, but it really doesn't need anything. I would suggest making sure your stem length is right for your body measurements.

I even really like the 3x9 transmission for grunting up steep grades with luggage. You can't beat that 26x34 (0.80) gear ratio!

In short, the people behind the design of this bike obviously ride bikes.

Used as prime bike for multiple sections of GDMBR . Ran the tire tubeless and had zero flats , even inNew Mexico where have hundreds of goat heads. Bike is smooth and fast, confidence inspiring. Still have not had any difficulty mechanically with close to 2,000 miles . The XT derailleur and bar end shifters simply work great, first time every time. Washboard roads are tough on any rigid bike - but with the fatter 47c tires you can flirt with the deep gravel along there side or in the middle.
