This bike is a long over due upgrade from a classic ridged "mountain" bike. How technology has changed! Right from the get go my trail speeds are dramatically up. (Previous average, 8-9 mph to now 11-13 mph) After tinkering with fork pressures I am no longer beat up like my old bike after a ride. Wonderful set of drivetrain and braking parts. The thing shifts effortlessly and comes to a stop very quickly. The bigger wheels help so very much smooth out the rather unchallenging trails near me. I'm having a great time going down new bits of trail and road that normally I would avoid due to the rough ride. I feel that with all the better collection of components this is a wonderful bike! Ordering off the site was a breeze and the delivery was very fast.

This bike is an long over due upgrade from my (What used to be called a mountain bike) rigid bike. The trails I ride are not in any way technical, uphill or down hill in any way. What they are is plenty of unfinished or abandoned roads in which some look more like paths through the woods.

The bike has all the features this rookie wanted. On said roads there are tons of wash outs, crumbling asphalt, plenty of loose aggregate and packed earth. Just from the few rides so far, I am already MUCH faster on these roads. As I'm still tweaking the front fork, each ride gets much smoother. The wagon wheels roll over things I normally would avoid like they are not even there. I should mention that the bike went together in quick order. Probably due to my bike shop experience. But even with that, one could easily watch the videos on the site to gain more experience at putting it together. But I doubt someone who would buy this bike would not have the experience needed to put the few bits together with any issues what so ever.

Everything works wonderfully. The brakes are brilliant, thought I haven't had any real test to throw at them. But just needing one finger to bring the bike to a stop is pretty impressive. Still reserving opinion on the Kenda Honey Badger "Sport" tires. My last set of tires were a matched set of front and rear that did splendid in the conditions I ride. I could certainly feel how they bit into the terrain. I have felt the Honey badgers slip now and then.

The ergonomics are another bit, I know its says from 5'3" to 5'7" but that top bar might have something else to say about that. I'm 5'6" and it has gotten close on a few sudden dismounts when I rounded corners to find deep sand. The cockpit is the right distance away and I maxed out the seat post. It is 300 mm in length so if your long in the leg and over my height you might have to pick up a longer one. The seat is doing quite well which is a pleasant surprise. The gear range is more than coping with the area I ride. Shifting is quick and so far not at all dramatic.

I opted to put on some Shimano clipless pedals on the bike. Since that is what I am used to. Even though the bike does come with platform pedals. They are the one thing I wondered about. Spinning the spindles reveals that they are pretty rough and don't spin at all. Maybe after riding about the bearings would seat on the races and they would spin much better.

In the same box that the pedals came in was a rather cute torque wrench with all the bits one would need to assemble the bike. Plus a pedal wrench. As I have years behind the wrench working on bikes. I didn't use any of it. One minor thing, the front caliper is rubbing on one side of the disk. The particular disk is stamped so one side is beveled holes and the other side has edges that protrude. I imagine that is what the pads are rubbing on. Though that could lead to the pad on said side wearing before the other. Being that disks are quite inexpensive I may replace it with a better one and try to realign the caliper.

There have been no issues with the bike. I am blasting down the abandoned roads and trails without the jarring that my rigid bike would put me through. The combination of the fork and huge wheels are doing a great job of smoothing out the ride.

One minor bit, documentation is pretty sketchy. Consisting of a pretty generic manual and the factory manuals for the various components. Which as you can imagine are full of tiny text and not very understandable. A huge omission is the owners manual for the fork. Which is strange since it is undoubtedly the one part on this bike you will be tweaking on and off to adjust for your various rides and conditions. For that I looked to the RockShox site and boy was that ever fun. Ultimately I turned to Youtube for answers. Unless your friends with a local bike shop, your going to need a fork/shock pump. Go with the one with the lower range. I've seen some that go up to 300 psi and you don't need that for this fork.

I'll repeat it again, this bike is tons of fun. There isn't a single quality control detail I can point to. High marks for fit and finish and style. I am quite pleased with my upgrade from my classic rigid to this modern hardtail. I'm sure you will have as much fun as I am. Oh P.S. the bike comes all secured with some pretty nifty reusable velcro straps, instead of the typical zip ties. They are nicely saved and will see duty for lots of different reasons.
