Atroz 2

We love hardtails, but there’s no denying the benefits of full-suspension mountain bikes — the added comfort and control. Unfortunately, dualies often add another thing: more dollar signs to the price tag. That’s not the case here. The Atroz utilizes sealed cartridge bearings in an understated single-pivot design to deliver smooth, durable performance. The Atroz 2 ups the ante with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, Suntour air-sprung rear suspension and an easy-to-operate single-ring drivetrain — features you usually find on bikes with a whole lot more dollar signs on their price tags.

OK so I bought a Diamondback Atroz 2 this year because I wanted to get back into mountain biking without spending a million dollars I figured I could upgrade the bike as i am a mechanic and do it cheaply and it would be a great starter all mountain bike for my local Bell Built jump tracks like devils race track here in Knoxville Tennessee!! Anyway I bought the number 2 cause it had pretty much everything I wanted tapered head steerer for suspension upgrades internal routing for a dropper post -SR Suntour has an upgrade program for these bikes got a Raidon XC LO R Air fork for 199.00 it had hydraulic brakes 1x drivetrain and a chain guide all stock. I ended up putting ODI Troy Lee design lock on grips,a WTB Volt pro 150mm saddle, a DNM dropper 125mm, one up pedals, tubeless tire kit, Cane Creek 40 series head set, and the new air fork. Now I have been aggressively beating on this bike for 3 months including chucking it on a bad jump on a down hill jump track and from 20 ft in the air it came down hard didn't even bend a wheel in fact the bike has been phenomenal for a bike I barely have $1000.00 in most people are incredibly surprised I tell them look at Diamondback and shoot them towards Seth's bike hacks on YouTube which is what got me stoked about mtb and Diamondback best decision ever. Now shipping was incredibly fast 4 or 5 days to the house came almost completely together and what needed assembly was simple and Diamondback gave me all the tools to do it so I didn't need my tools except my shock pump which I bought at my work dicks sporting goods where I am the head bike technician but my daughter can do the 4 steps you have to do easily!! Now for the cons on this bike I honestly can't find alot or give many faults the bike is long low slack does everything well it's quality inexpensive built well beautiful however the entry level components in the drive line had a failure however Diamondback took care of it quickly and definitively although it was a SRAM problem (wow) the only real complaint I wish was different on the bike is that it has 9mm qr axles and I wish they would give us at least an option to update the rear triangle to the one from the comp as it has 12mm through axle I believe it's boost as well on the comp but honestly that could have been solved by just buying a comp instead of wanting to build it out as I could have gotten it for what I have in this bike just really wanted to modify so I could get acquainted with the bike!! The bike doesn't bob as bad as most other bikes I demoed its right for what it is incredibly fast and more importantly I was very well taken care of by Diamondback on my purchase bravo guys you absolutely nailed it five stars two thumbs up only thing I might do next other than buy another Diamondback (release 4 carbon) is put a 150mm fork on it and a 190mmx51mm adding about 8mm should make it as capable as the other bikes I tested the trance and Bronson as well as the 5010cc but at half the cost it will slacken the bike more but also raise the bottom bracket :( One last thing I compared this bike to the other bikes I tested out before and after my purchase to include a Santa Cruz 5010cc with eagle drivetrain about a 5,000.00 bike and you won't believe this but truthfully I prefer my bike it is WAY more stable on the slippery stuff and rocks more poppy and playful off the lips of the jumps even with the -SR Suntour suspension vs fox (wow) very surprised also I didn't need the first 2 gears even on the toughest climbs here I couldn't find the right gear and didn't think the shifting was as smooth I did like the sound of the rear hub on the 5010 but not a good enough reason to not keep my Atroz now I know this is almost borderline unbelievable but me being a heavy 225lb guy the extra weight of my bike means it kept its speed up higher on the next steep section from the downhills also felt better in the air like it just plowed through the table tops and although the 5010 accelerated faster and was easier to get to speed and stupid fast once it was going I think slow and more technique is smarter on bigger jumps my bike just felt better which pissed off the guys at the local bike shop I go to other than dicks sporting goods!! So in conclusion if this sounds like a line of crap promoting the atroz that is swayed by my own love for my bike but go try both then tell me im right also something to note the price of this bike felt too cheap and so I had my heart set on the more expensive bike I only decided to go this route after noticing the slight differences for thousands of dollars thanks

Nice ride!

The bike was easy to assembly, had a bit of a problem with one of the bolts on the face plate being over torqued which caused the head to strip, replaced it with one from my local shop. Just needed to adjust brake calipers, and I was ready to ride. The bike isn't on the light side but very well balanced, as compared to my XC bike, but with the gear selection available I was able to easily climb my local trails and on the downhills the suspension performed well, I was honestly surprised by how well. I would recommend this bike to anyone looking for an entry level trail bike, I don't think you could go wrong!

The bike was easy to assembly, had a slight problem with one of the face plate bolts being over torqued causing the bolt head to strip I was able to get a bolt at my local shop. Before riding I had to adjust the brake calipers and nothing else. Overall a good package I was surprised by the gear range as I was able to climb my local trails with easy and the downhill sections were handled well by the suspension both front and rear. I would have to say that for the price it makes for one of the best entry level trail bikes available. The bike is a bit heavy but well balanced, you can't go wrong with this one!
