The Release 1 is a trail bike we’ve only been able to dream about, until now. Built around our new Level Link suspension system, every part of this bike works to improve your performance. The patent-pending short-link four-bar system isolates chain forces from trail inputs, resulting in our best-pedaling mountain bike ever. And with the rest of the bike designed to get the most out of the suspension, the Release 1 rides like it has much more travel than upon first look.

We used hydroformed aluminum for the frame: predictable, durable, and light. With a long top tube and short rear end, this bike’s modern geometry allows it to be very stable at speed yet still stay balanced while dealing with technical sections. Long and low without being sluggish, it’s a bike for all-day excursions and quick rides alike. A 150mm Rockshox Yari RC fork, 1×11 SRAM drivetrain, 148mm thru-axle rear end, and SRAM Level hydraulic brakes round out the parts build.

The Release 1: for riders that earn their turns and seek speed everywhere. Ready Ride bikes are shipped 95 percent assembled. Typical bike assembly is time-consuming and requires technical know-how. Ready Ride reduces the time and skills needed for the final, four-step assembly.

Great Design and Durability

Review by B. Morey
Overall Quality

This bike replaced my single pivot full suspension bike that I had previously. I took it to Big Bear to ride Snow Summit and it absolutely killed it on the harsh terrain the trails had to offer. Excellent overall quality and well-paired components take your skills to the next level. This is a bike that I know I will be keeping for a long time without any doubt that I may get bored of it.

On a whole different level from my Trek 3500 starting bike. The single gear at the crank is so much better than multiple gears. It's far easier to ensure you're in the optimal gear for whatever you're doing. It climbs exceptionally well and has massive grip. There were many times where I was convinced I was going to lose it on a poor landing and I was shocked that I was able to keep moving.

If the seat is too long, cut it minimal length necessary. When you're on this bike, people will know you're serious.

Excellent Value and Fun!

Overall Quality

This is the perfect all around, do all bike. It replaced a well regarded 26" FS bike I sold. The geometry inspires immediate confidence, climbing is very good, and downhill is great. It pedals faster than the more XC oriented FS bike I had, it may climb a little slower, but I still find it to be a much better climber. I like the 650b wheels. Component spec is great for the price range and I love the simplicity of the 1x drivetrain. If you are a frugal biker who doesn't get paid to ride a bike, then this is probably the best deal you will find.

Overall Quality

Wow what an amazing bike. We just picked up the 2017 release 1 for our teenage son who has been riding a diamondback overdrive for the last 5 years. The smile on his face said it all after his first ride on the release. He couldn't wait to get it to the local MBP to put it thru its paces. Once he returned all he could talk about was how the bike could bomb thru a rock garden and handle anything he thru at it, in turn scaring the heck of his mother and I while listening to his new adventures on his Release 1. So if your in the market for a great all around MB for yourself or one of your kids, don't hesitate to give the Release 1 a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Great bike it is!

Review by Erik
Overall Quality

I bought the 2017 Release1 about a month ago and have ridden it numerous times since then. First, I've been riding hardtail bikes for about 30 years now and used to work in a bike shop. I was hesitant to commit the money on a full suspension bike but DB has really done their homework on the suspension design of the Release. Right away I noticed that there is essentially no pedal bob, even when pedaling aggressively. The suspension absorbed everything it went over while pedaling and breaking. The frame geometry does feel quick and stable. On the first ride out, I noticed myself getting faster than I normally would as I got more comfortable on the bike. Compared to my 29er hardtail, this bike seems to want to carve turns, fly over jumps, speed up on ascents and rocket down hills. I have the XL size frame and it is about as big and heavy as they come, YET, with the 1x11 gearing and quick handling geometry it feels light and nimble when riding and generally feels faster, better, and more dialed into the trail than any other bike I have ridden. While the Release1 isn't spec'd with top tier components, they're more than enough for my style of riding - I would upgrade if I raced but otherwise I feel they're good to go. I test rode numerous other full suspension bikes from Trek, Specialized and Giant and without a doubt the Release1 is much better than it's nearest competition. The bikes from Specialized and Giant felt almost pogo-sticky when compared to the smooth and controlled travel of the Release - it just felt more dialed in, precise, and refined than the others. I would highly recommend this bike as it is the sleeper deal in the current mtn bike market.

Brake side swapping

Review by Larry
Overall Quality

The front brake hose is not long enough to switch to the right-side lever, a new hose is needed. The rear brake hose can be shortened to fit the left-side lever. Because SRAM Level brakes are so new, there isn't good info on-line to know which new parts will fit and which bleed kits will fit, or how to bleed the calipers.

Best pedaling bike I've ridden

Review by Bdilled
Overall Quality

This is the best full suspension bike I've ever ridden. I've had a diamondback mission and specialized enduro and this rides better than both of those. It has the perfect amount of travel and I couldn't help but smile riding it. Yes, it's on the heavier side, but it doesn't feel like it at all when pedaling. I would never have guessed it's weight had I not known prior to riding it. And this is a great value for such an efficient suspension platform and solid components. Don't think, buy it!

Bang for your Buck Trail Monster!

Review by William

This bike is great for anyone. From beginners to someone looking to upgrade it has everything you need to get out and ride with confidence. The NX 1x11 and Level Link suspension gets you up any incline like an XC bike would and the slack geometry along with the 150 Yari fork makes it a downhill champion. All the other components don't leave you lacking either. The grippy and wide Schwalbe tires are a match for any trail and the Sram Level brakes will stop you in a hurry. After about a month of ownership I am really happy with this bang for the buck bike. My only wish is a dropper post but having internal routing options for one is perfect for myself to install my own.

Hands down the best mtb I've ever ridden.

Review by Jason

I coming back after a five year hiatus, much has changed. I did months of extensive research before pulling the trigger on the Release. I was hesitant partly because I wasn't convinced that such a bike could be had at this price point. I've had bikes at more than twice the price that can't begin to keep up with this thing. Biggest factors for my decision was suspension design and apparent build strength as I tend to bend bikes easily. I haven't stressed it on the downhill yet so I can't attest to brute strength, but the best descriptor to sum it up would be to call it a two-wheeled rock crawler however nimble like a well engineered sports car. It arrived on my doorstep in professional packaging with all the little nits and bits included. I set up the front tubeless with a homebrew sealant (never experienced tubeless before), easy as Diamondback has already done all the hard work for you. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Great Bike!

Review by Chris

Being a veteran cyclist I honestly was a little hesitant to buy a DB, I was under the impression that DB had poor quality and were cheap. I read numerous reviews online and everything was positive, so I decided to give them a shot. The bike came when promised, was packed very well, instructions and set up were a breeze and the bike is awesome! The only so called negative is the stem feels to short and wish there were some options to trade it out or customize parts during purchase. Other than that its great and I will be recommending DB to friends.
