What’s the deal with these so-called 27.5 plus bikes? In a nutshell, bigger tires. If that doesn’t sound exactly revolutionary, consider this: Plus-size tires add insane levels of traction and control to trail bikes without adding weight and slowing you down. The Diamondback Mason 1 is a hard-charging hardtail that plows through the rough stuff, yet remains fun and flickable.

The Mason 1 gets the job done and keeps things simple with sturdy double wall wheels wrapped with 27.5 x 3.0 inch tires. The 1x10 drivetrain keeps shifting simple, meaning no pesky front derailleur to fiddle with while you monster-truck over rocks and roots. Take the trail less traveled? Sure. And with the Mason 1 you’ll be ripping the trail less traveled.

Fantastic bike

Overall Quality

I just got this bike and I was a little unsure of it because there weren't many reviews of it or videos of it online. I'm a heavier guy and will go ahead and say this is the best bike. I'm 240lbs and I can bunny hop this beast. Very clean and good looking bike. For the price the components are the best deal around. I think the plus size tires help since this isnt a full suspension. The bike doesn't look it but it's extremely light and snappy. If you can't afford a full suspension or live in a flatter state like FL do yourself a favor and get this bike it's fantastic!!!

Great bike. Impressed with DB and 27.5+

Review by Donny
Overall Quality

Impressed with quality of bike and the feel of the monster 27.5+ tyres. The slate blue is gorgeous. It is a sexy, mean and tough looking machine. Pictures do not do it justice. Lost no agility from my previous bikes with old school 26" wheels. Got this to be a reliable second bike to my 2008 specialized enduro elite when I'm too busy to rebuild air shock and fork... and for a loaner for my buddies that I am trying to get into the sport... and a test to see if I want to get the plus sized tyres on my next bike... a DB Catch or DB Release later this fall or next spring. Jury is still out on big tires, but I AM SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED. I will be riding this often. Back wheels do double as shocks. Can bunny hop with ease and have never been able to wheelie/manual better. I'm 5'10"175 lbs and I got the large. Fits perfect. 34mm Stanchions are stout and stiff. Don't let the mountain bike geeks fool you, there is much to be said with coil/spring forks, including little to no maintenance. My 1998 Schwinn Moab 2 with the old Judy coil fork bombed down Porcupine Rim to almost every great trail in the rockies... and this Mason 1 is 10x that bike. Even with the lower end fork, I would consider this to be an all mountain bike. Funny how we think a $600-$800 bike is budget, but this can take you where ever you need to go. Well played, DB. Well played. Great engineering and value. I will be back for more.
