El Oso Grande

El Oso Grande fat bike is, like its namesake, surprisingly quick and nimble for its size. This big bear may look like a lumbering beast, but after a few pedal strokes it's apparent that the bike is a trail-capable adventure machine. We designed El Oso Grande around a rigid platform to shave pounds and let the gigantic tires take care of the suspension - something they do quite well. With hydroformed aluminum tubes, the frame and fork allow an amazingly nimble ride. A SRAM X5 2×10 drivetrain has a gear for any trail, and disc brakes provide excellent modulation and stopping power. And how could we forget about the tires: they're five inches wide. Able to be comfortably ridden with PSI in the low teens, El Oso Grande digs its claws in and doesn't let go. Whether you're bikepacking, riding in deep sand and snow, or just enjoying the excess traction on normal trails, this bike is prepared!

El Oso Grande - Mui Bueno

Review by Stevo
Overall Quality

I only have 100 miles on this fatty, but they have been very adventurous miles. Here are my observations:
Price, shipping, and packing: Great price for what you get. I ordered this and received it two days later...lightning fast. The bike was professionally packed and had no scratches, scars, or dents. It comes with all the tools you need to install the saddle, handlebars, and front wheel. Brakes came tuned fairly well. I had to make slight adjustments. If you have a basic knowledge of bike assembly/repair you'll have no problem getting her ready to ride.
Ride: Very fun and nimble bike for its size. It is heavier than other fat bikes I have ridden and owned, but that wasn't something I was worried about. I'm not racing, I'm just having fun.
Tires: 4.9" of float and comfort. With the proper inflation/deflation you will float over snow, mounds, etc, and cruise pavement like a champ.
Wheelset: Great entry level wheels and hubs. They roll smoothly, are true, and they look sharp with the bike
Braking: It would be nice if the rotors were a bit bigger, but she stops fairly efficiently, and I haven't yet noticed an issue. The machanical disc brakes work well.
Shifting: The SRAM drivetrain is efficient, quick, and quiet!
Saddle: If you like a firm saddle, you'll love the stock DB saddle (as I do). If you are wanting to sit on a pillow, you'll have to invest in a different saddle.
Handgrips: This is my only "delta" with the bike. The handgrips are cheap foam grips, and it seems that one brush with a tree or branch will tear them to peices. I am going to order a set of Odis.
Pedals: The stick pedals are actually kinda nice, and grippy. I replaced them with my 45Nrth pedals, but that's just preference.
Comfort: Once you get her dialied in (saddle, handlebars), you'll love the ride.
Conclusion: She's heavy, and she's fun. If you are looking to win races, this is NOT your bike. If you are looking to take leisurely rides, keep in shape through the winter, have no problems with sand or snow, and be seen on a sharp-looking fat bike....look no further than the DB El Oso Grande. You'll be the envy of your friends!

Great Value for a fatbike - especially for winter riding

I have a handful of days riding in the snow with this bike, and have been really happy with it. Given the price you can snag this bike for, this is a hard deal to pass up. The entire bike is just really functional - there is nothing fancy about it. The extra wide tires definitely help in the snow when compared to the 4.5" tires I've ridden on other fatbikes. The frame is littered with cage mount bolts - including 4 along the downtube (not quite sure what I would do with all of those). The forks could have panniers mounted to them, and part of the reason I went with this model is for the possibility of setting it up for bikepacking. I've been pleasantly surprised with the shifting of the X5 groupset. The only flaw I've found with the bike is that the brakes are not the greatest. I've had good luck with cable brakes disc brakes on a road bike I've owned, but these have left something to be desired.

I think if you want a bike that is well suited for primarily snow riding, this is a good bet.
