Sync'r 24

For the up and coming trail rider, we present the Diamondback Sync’r 24. A smaller wheeled version of our hard charging hardtail, it’s a completely capable kids mountain bike ready for action.

The 24 inch wheels and low slung geometry provide just the right fit and handling for young riders, and it’s built from the same material we use to make our full size mountain bikes. Stout DB double wall wheels are built to take abuse, while the grippy 2.35 inch wide Kenda tires provide plenty of traction and stability.

With comparable components to what you’ll find on the big guys’ (and gals’) bikes, young riders will have all they need to get to that next level with the Sync’r 24.

It’s aMount

Review by Zoikz
Overall Quality

Really great bike for kids honing skills mountain biking. It’s the right price for the performance. Coming off a 20” this was a huge leap in performance and my son overnight got better in a variety of terrain. It has modern geometry and a relatively slack head angle which really helps avoid endos. Brakes are really great. There is a reach adjuster just behind the lever that I highly recommend you adjust so it works with kids hands. The shifting is solid and the 1x11 keeps things simple and has the right gear ratios. Major issue was the limit screws were not set properly and it dumped the chain into the pie protector. Major ding on whoever set this up.
It’s also heavy. It’s pretty hard to avoid it at this level of bike and doesn’t impact riding so much as when it’s hike-a-bike. I generally need to help w really steep pitches.
Would really benefit from thru axles. Kids are going to dump bikes a lot. It’s not hard to bang the wheel hard enough that the brakes rub. The skewers are pretty cheap and I don’t think they do a good job keeping the wheel secure.

Good bike with flawed front shock

Review by SaintEds
Overall Quality

Just picked this bike up for my 8 year old. We're upgrading from what I believe is the Diamondback Octane 20. The sync'r 24 is a great improvement in braking and shifting over the that bike. My son loves those changes. We have a considerable complaint with the bundled front fork however. Diamondback sells it as a Suntour XCR, and then mentions it's an air/spring combo which is confusion. When researching on Suntour's website you will see they have 2 XCR options: an air varient and a spring variant. I was under the impression that the XCR on this bike must be the air variant given the "air/spring" description. But upon receipt of the bike, I learned that this is sadly not the case. While the Suntour XCR air allows you to adjust air pressure (very important when lightweight bodies are riding these), the shock bundled with this bike does not. I've learned after the fact that the bundled shock actually used a sealed air cartridge, and as such air pressure cannot be adjusted. It's such a shame because my son's 8 year old bodyweight can't compress the shock by more than roughly 25%. He's not able to use hardly any of the 80mm of travel this shock is marketed at. In fact it's so stiff that I can't compress more than 60% even under my 165 pounds of bodyweight. This shock is more stiff than the crummy spring shock that came on his old Octane 20 bike. It's such a shame and I feel mislead. Diamondback ought to have paired this bike with the real Suntour XCR air shock so kids can experience what using the full travel of the suspension is like. Would be a nice gesture for Diamondback to correct either their 80mm travel claim or offer to swap out the existing shock for the real XCR air shock.

We got this as a birthday present for my 8 year-old. Needless to say, he loves it. It rolls great, shifts great, brakes great. It’s great! This is by far the best bang for the buck of any bike I found. Did I mention the bike is great?

Diamondback with the WIN!!!

Review by BenRider
Overall Quality

Looked for a quality 24'' MTB with more then 7 or 8 speeds and found nothing under the $1000 mark. I happened upon the Sync'r on Amazon for much less than that. My little guy has been riding for two seasons and as much as 7 or 8 speeds does a great job introducing him to how to shift, and ride off road he spent most of his time walking up the inclines. It reassuring that Diamondback has addressed that issue with the Sync'r and used a 1x11 drive train along with other quality components. When will the rest of the industry follow suit and build 24's with real components, geometry, and tubing sizes of a fullsize bike simply with a downsized frame and wheel set. Your kids shouldn't suffer when they ride, if we as a biking community want them to ride they need to enjoy it. The more they enjoy the more they will want to ride.

Great value and Ready to Ride assembly!

Review by CullerFam
Overall Quality

We ordered this bike for my 10 year old who is already a strong single track rider but was being weighed down by his current 20" bike. We are reluctant to get a full-suspension due to the weight hit (and since a hardtail will teach a kid better technique!). The components/set-up on the Sync'r are great for the price. The bike arrived FAST and was packaged well. Loved the free shipping and best of all READY to RIDE assembly. Putting the final pieces together was snap for my bike-riding spouse - the kid was on it the next day, and once he'd mastered the shifters (former bike had grip shifts), he was tearing up the trail. Very pleased with our purchase!

Easy Assembly & Solid Customer Service

Review by JC
Overall Quality

While it's not been ridden yet, I have to say that assembly was a breeze. The packaging was solid, delivery time quick (3 business days, free, FedEx), and the customer service was on point. Make sure to have bike grease already on hand, and it came with the allen wrenches & pedal wrench. The videos (link comes with bike) were straightforward. It took a little tightening of the front wheel lock to seat the disk brake in the pads. I freaked out a bit when I heard some noise when i first turned the cranks, but a run through of the gears rectified all fears and she's humming now. Impressive bike/components. The dad in me was happy to see it come with reflectors in the normal places (not shown in the pic). Additionally, mine was missing the two front cable clips which kept the cables attached to the frame; I contacted customer service and they have them on their way to me same business day. Nice work DB! Hope to add to this review after my son gets some dirt on it. Free shipping & no tax FTW!

I've been shopping around for a 24" MTB

Review by T-Bone
Overall Quality

After looking for 6 months for a 24" MTB , we finally found the Diamondback Sync-r 24". Though it's a hardtail the style and quality of components are hard to beat. Not to mention the affordable price. In my opinion this is the best bang for your buck , knowing your child will out grow within 2-3 yrs. A full suspension will be the next purchase but I'll have 2-3 yrs to save for the one we want.

Great bike for the money

Review by Aaron
Overall Quality

It's hard to find a 1x11 24" mountain bike for kids that is less than $1000. The components on this bike are really nice. The packaging for shipping was excellent. With free shipping and no tax, you will not find a better deal with this level of components!
