The Mission 1 27.5 is a bike designed to unlock the secret world of All Mountain ripping. Do those steep, rocky, and root strewn descents have you second guessing your trail choice? No more. The Mission 1 27.5’s Knucklebox suspension design delivers 160mm of trail taming travel to tackle all of the big hits, while the 27.5” wheels give you better grip and roll over for a surefooted feel. Of course you’re not just riding down, you also have to go up, and for that the Fox CTD suspension provides you a pedaling platform for uphill efficiency. The result, you get to the top fresher, and send it down the other side for a whole lot more fun. Welcome to a brave, new world.
For 2015, Diamondback is changing the game. We are now entering what we are calling the KnuckleBox Migration. This means we have refined our KnuckleBox platform to leverage even more performance from our already proven design. By migrating all the suspension components forward in the frame, we’ve increased the travel to 160mm and made room for nimble, fast rolling 27.5” wheels. A newly designed, inverted KnuckleBox linkage and our proprietary single sided hardware round out our new signature All Mountain, full suspension ride.
The KnuckleBox, or bell crank, is the core of our single-pivot, four-bar suspension platform. Optimally placed pivots equate to a low leverage ratio, and ultimately to superior pedaling efficiency and small-bump compliance. This also allows the shock to work more efficiently and reduces pedal induced motion. It further reduces overall load on the system promoting improved shock and bearing life. Placing the KnuckleBox low within the frame lowers the bike’s center of gravity allowing it to track and corner better.
Wheel rate is the effective spring rate measured at the wheel, and it is a crucial aspect when considering suspension systems. A benefit of our KnuckleBox four-bar linkage is increased control over the wheel rate. We work closely with Fox, first obtaining the spring rate curves of their shocks so we can then optimize our wheel rates to be linear, to slightly progressive. The resulting ride yields superb small bump compliance, more perceived travel, and excellent bottom-out protection.
The Mission Pro 27.5 comes in a blue color scheme and is available in SM (15.5"), MD (17"), LG (19"), XL (21") sizes.
